Additives
Additives are special ingredients that improve the quality, performance and functionality of paints and coatings. A small amount of additive is added to the formulation to ensure durability and improve film performance. The additives are used for architectural, automotive, industrial, wood coatings applications, among others.
Dispersants
A solid material dispersed in a liquid requires an additive to make the dispersion process easier and more stable. Optimal dispersion and stabilization of pigment particles is a significant factor in determining the properties of lacquers, paints or printing inks. The pigments and fillers of a formulation must be ground into small particles, moistened and distributed as stable as possible. Only then are the maximum values of color intensity, gloss, hiding power, lightfastness and weather resistance achieved.
Humectants
The wetting of the pigment particles is essential so that they can be finely distributed in a liquid. The air trapped in the pigment powder must be completely displaced and the pigment particles completely surrounded by the liquid medium.
Defoamers
Defoamers contain organomodified polysiloxanes which are characterized by their degree of incompatibility. For each system that has to be defoamed, 4 parameters must be considered with respect to relative importance and the production process. This way, the appropriate defoamer will be selected:
Eficiency
Long term stability
Surface defect trends
Incorporation
Rheological Modifiers
Key components in paints, coatings and inks, which control the characteristics and properties of liquid products. Without these special additives, liquid media would be as "fluid" as water. During application, the paints would splatter in all directions, they would have little covering power and their useful life would be much shorter. Rheological modifiers allow formulators to adjust the flow behavior of paints and coatings. This way, painters benefit from viscosity and improve application characteristics.
Leveling Agents
They improve leveling and fluidity while reducing the occurrence of craters. They also prevent floating and bleeding of the pigment, as well as help to adjust the smoothness and anti-blocking effect.
Drying Agents
Dryers are chemical compounds that accelerate the drying of solvent-based formulated paints, as well as printing inks and varnishes that dry by auto oxidation.
